2. WhatsApp

Send a message to 082 046 8553 saying “SASSA” or “Status.” Follow the instructions provided in the chat to view your status quickly and easily.

3. USSD Code (for Basic Phones)

Dial 1203210# or 12062277# from your mobile phone and follow the prompts. This method doesn’t require data or a smartphone, making it super accessible.

4. SASSA Call Centre

Need to speak to someone? Call the toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 and have your ID number ready.

What Your SASSA Status Might Say (And What It Means)

• Pending: Your application is still under review. Sit tight!

• Approved: Congratulations—your grant has been approved. Payment is on the way.

• Declined: Unfortunately, your application didn’t meet the requirements. But don’t worry—you can appeal.

• Bank Details Pending: You need to submit or fix your bank information.

• Cancelled: The application was withdrawn, possibly due to an error or change in your circumstances.

What to Do If You’re Declined

Don’t give up. You can submit an appeal directly on the SRD website. Each month you’re declined, you can appeal separately—so it’s worth checking back regularly and acting fast. Provide any updated information or documents requested to support your case.
