Question for those who've used a car inspection service here – what do they actually check?0 мнения

I'm getting ready to buy a used 2017 BMW X3 from a seller in JLT and I keep seeing people on this forum say "get a pre purchase inspection" like it's the most obvious thing in the world. And I get it, I really do. But I'm trying to understand what these services actually do compared to just taking the car to a normal mechanic. Like, will they put the car on a lift and check for leaks and worn bushings? Sure, any shop can do that. But I've also heard horror stories about flood cars from the US that look totally fine on the outside, or cars that have had their odometer rolled back using some software trick. Does a standard inspection catch that kind of stuff? I was reading online and decided to check it out for myself, and some places claim they do paint thickness measurements to spot accident repairs, scan the ECU for tampering, and even check the underbody for signs of salt water damage. Is that actually real or just marketing talk? I don't mind paying extra for peace of mind, but I also don't want to throw money away on something that's just a fancy visual check. If you've used a thorough inspection service here in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, can you tell me exactly what they did that impressed you? I want to know what questions to ask before I book someone. Thanks.
