The K1 visa, also known as the fiancé(e) visa, is a special immigration option that allows a U.S. citizen to bring their foreign fiancé(e) to the United States for marriage. Once the visa is granted, the couple must marry within 90 days of the fiancé(e)’s arrival. After marriage, the foreign spouse can apply for adjustment of status to become a permanent resident. The K1 visa requires proof of a genuine relationship, evidence that the couple has met in person within the last two years, and sufficient financial support from the U.S. citizen. It provides a direct pathway for couples to unite in the U.S. and begin their lives together while following legal immigration procedures.
